tHE Rainbow that started it all

‘Rainbow queen’

“They’ve” given me the title Rainbow Queen, and when I say “they” I mean my social media/industry peers. It’s a name I try to live up to and never thought I’d have, but here I am, a few years into my balloon business and the name seems to have stuck. It’s flattering to say the least. There are so many talented artists in this industry, many of them who make amazing balloon rainbows, and they have all been so encouraging and supportive. I have to say I love making rainbows! It’s almost as if it was part of my calling, and it found me through a 1st birthday I styled for my niece.

I’ve made a LOT of Rainbows! The first was actually pretty good (if you’ve ever made one, you know how hard it is), but I guess I had a knack for it. By the time I got my second request for a pastel rainbow my creative brain was flowing with ideas. I couldn’t wait to have an opportunity to make a Rainbow the way I imagined it. You see, there’s a pretty standard method for making these Balloon Rainbows and most I had seen at that time were really “basic”. When I say that, I don’t mean they weren’t beautiful, but they were almost always the same color palette with same white clouds. I wanted to do something a little more fun. Something different, and trendy.

Boho Rainbow

Fast forward a month later and it was my nieces first birthday. I knew I had to make something absolutely amazing for her and I knew a Rainbow had to be a part of it. Not only because I wanted to make one, but because my sister had spent 6 years trying to conceive my niece Lily and after multiple rounds of ivf and several pregnancy losses, in late 2019 she finally conceived Lily naturally. She was a miracle Rainbow baby.

I remember having a color palette in mind for this Boho Rainbow I wanted to make; Pinks & Nudes maybe a little white. But it needed a fun element to it. At this time, September of 2020, I had never seen anyone use prints in their Rainbows, maybe they had, but it definitely wasn’t trending, and although I originally wanted to use a Leopard Print, the week I was making the Rainbow I came across a photo on Instagram of a rainbow cookie that had Cheetah speckles on it! Immediately I changed the Leopard to Cheetah and everyone went crazy! “I wish I knew who made that cookie that inspired that change! The Boho Rainbow was born and the rest is history!

This rainbow put me on the map in many ways. I got so much attention over it on Instagram and it was shared over 4k times. Oh, and don’t get me started on how many times it's been “replicated”. It’s been 2 years and I still get notifications that another artists shared that rainbow, or a message from artists asking for the exact colors because their client sent them my photo and wants it for their kids birthday. Honestly, it’s really cool!

The only thing I regret is not posting it myself on Pinterest! It’s been stolen many times and used to sell other peoples products, and although I’m flattered, it’s also part of the downside of making something so many of you love. I choose not to let that stuff get to me though. That Rainbow was made with love for someone I love so dearly, it made so many people happy (it was actually passed around town, but that’s a story for another time). That’s what it’s all about; the love and joy it brings to others!

Since then, the Feathered Fox Rainbow method was born and has continued to evolve. I’ve added fringe, flowers, records and more as clouds, and now teach my method online and in person. Wow, who would’ve thought! I sure didn’t, but I am so thankful! My passion and love for Balloon Rainbows, and Rainbows in general, will always be a part of me.
